Sorption-desorption of cadmium in aqueous palygorskite, sepiolite, and calcite suspensions: isotherm hysteresis 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Sorption isotherms have been widely used to assess the heavy metal retention characteristics of soil particles. Desorption behavior of the retained metals, however, usually differ from that of sorption, leading to a lack of coincidence in the experimentally obtained sorption and desorption isotherms. In this study, we examine the nonsingularity of cadmium (Cd) sorption–desorption isotherms, to check the possible hysteresis and reversibility phenomena, in aqueous palygorskite, sepiolite and calcite systems. Sorption of Cd was carried out using a 24-h batch equilibration experiment with eight different Cd solution concentrations, equivalent to 20–100% of maximum sorption capacity of each mineral. Immediately after sorption, desorption took place using successive dilution method with five consecutive desorption steps. Both Cd sorption and desorption data were adequately described by Freundlich equation (0.81 < r2 < 0.99). The sorption and desorption reactions, however, did not provide the same isotherms, indicating that hysteresis occurred in Cd sorption–desorption processes. The extent of hysteresis was quantified based on the differences obtained from sorption and desorption isotherms regarding the amount of Cd sorbed, the Freundlich exponent, and the Cd distribution coefficient. The results revealed that, sepiolite possessed the most hysteretic behavior among the minerals studied. Calcite showed much smaller hysteresis compared to the other two silicate clays at low Cd surface load, but its hysteresis indices significantly increased, and exceeded that of palygorskite, as the amount of Cd in the systems increased. The average amount of Cd released after five desorption steps, was 13.8%, 2.2% and 3.6% for the palygorskite, sepiolite and calcite, respectively, indicating that a large portion of Cd was irreversibly retained by the minerals. 相似文献

Thirty-four analogs with variable antifungal activity were selected to develop models for establishing three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationships (3D-QSAR). Comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative similarity indices analyses (CoMSIA) were conducted on the group of analogs to determine the structural requirements for selectivity and potency in inhibiting biofilm formation and fungal growth. The best CoMFA model predicted a q(2) = 0.5 and an r(2) = 0.991, and revealed that electrostatic properties play a significant role in potency and selectivity. The best CoMSIA model combined electrostatics, hydrogen bond acceptor and donor, and hydrophobic fields with a q(2) = 0.664 r(2) = 0.952, S = 0.099, and F = 139.892. The analyses of the contour maps from both models provide significant insight into the structural necessities for a potent compound. Therefore, manipulating various chemical properties of the substituted groups on the farnesol chain can be used to enhance the fungicidal properties of the target compound. 相似文献

through March 9, 2001. Measurements included integrated PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Ambient PM2.5 and PM10 were apportioned to their local sources using the chemical mass balance (CMB) receptor model and compared with results obtained
using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results indicate that PM2.5 components were mainly from combustion sources, including motor vehicles, and secondary species (nitrates and sulfates).
PM10 consisted mainly of geological material, in addition to emissions from combustion sources. The fractional contributions of

This study focuses on the chemical analysis of the available brands of domestic bottled water in Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia. The distribution of the chemical constituents (major, minor, and trace elements) is determined and compared with the chemical content labeled on the bottles and with drinking water standards of Saudi Arabian, World Health Organization, and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The obtained results indicated that except for fluoride and bromate, the concentrations of dissolved salts, soluble cations and anions, nitrate, and trace elements of most bottled waters on sale were within the permissible limits set by standards used. On the other hand, the comparison between determined and reported label values recorded a substantial variation in some parameter values. Results indicated that more than 18 % of the sampled bottled waters exceeded the allowable limits for drinking water. Generated Piper diagrams revealed that the majority of investigated waters were sodium chloride–sulfate type; however, the hydrochemical modeling indicated that all water samples were undersaturated for anhydrite, gypsum, and halite. 相似文献

AbstractIn the present work, dispersive micro-solid phase extraction (D-μ-SPE) method using magnetic graphene oxide tert-butylamine (GO/Fe3O4/TBA) nanocomposite, as an efficient sorbent, was applied for determining 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in water and food samples. Detection was carried out using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrument. Influential parameters of D-μ-SPE such as sorbent and its amount, elution solvent and its volume, adsorption and desorption times and pH of sample solution were investigated and optimized. Under the optimized conditions, limit of detection and quantitation values were 0.007 and 0.02?μg/mL, respectively. Recovery data for several real samples were obtained within the range of 88.0–94.0% with a relative standard deviation (RSD) less than 7.5%. The proposed method was successfully applied to quantitative determination of 2,4-D in several vegetables and water samples. 相似文献

Coastal aquaculture is faced with extreme variation in water quality. The Deeba Triangle on Lake Manzala is the largest marine coastal aquaculture-producing area on the Egyptian Mediterranean. Samples from 16 ponds were taken during four seasons (2014–2015), to investigate the variation of 12 water quality parameters at that region. We tested the hypothesis that there is no spatial or temporal variation in water quality of the fish ponds. Fish ponds were statistically clustered into three groups (p?=?0.0005) coincident with their geographical location. Hypersaline and transparent waters characterized the western ponds; higher dissolved oxygen and higher nutrients characterized the central region. These spatial differences were principally due to variations in salinity and nutrients of the water sources used for irrigation of the ponds and to differences in the aeration management styles. Strong seasonality was seen in water temperature (following air temperature), nutrients, and turbidity (following the seasonal cycles of various water sources from the Lake Manzala and the seasonality of the petrochemical plants effluents close to these ponds). We conclude that municipal effluents significantly affected, spatially and temporally, the quality of the irrigation water used for coastal aquaculture purposes, which consequently might affect fish yield. 相似文献
